Sun & Salt
Film Production

Auteur cinema, born from the American South.

What we make

Original film and television — lush, literary, and unapologetically upscale. Sun & Salt develops and produces director-driven work with a distinct Southern voice, matched to world-class craft. This is not regional filmmaking made smaller for its geography — it is Southern story told at the highest level of the form, for audiences everywhere.

The slate

The Body Celestial

A ten-minute multimedia solo performance exploring the parallels between human biology and cosmic structure — written and performed by Masha Dowell, directed by Veronique MacRae. Commissioned by the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs and NASA/JPL for Language of the Cosmos, and presented at Taxco Theatre, Los Angeles.

Completed

Dark Matters

A feature documentary written and directed by Masha Dowell, following the drive to Raleigh and the first live performance of The Body Celestial — a film about origins, circulation, and communication, on and off the stage.

In Development

The Semiquincentennial Dinner

A silent film in ten courses, written by Masha Dowell — two stories told in a single meal, marking America's 250th year.
